How To Get Noticed For Basketball In A Small Town (Basketball Scholarship)

I live in a small town, how can I get these coaches to see me? How can I get these coaches to see me play, or even get a scholarship? I know it’s most people’s dream to play in college, but not every one of us has the talent to do that. You have to ask yourself these questions: am I good enough to play at a higher level, do I have the passion to play, and what is my backup plan if I don’t succeed.

Maybe you do have the skills and athleticism, but yet you from a small town. Where basketball is not the main sport. What do you do? Many people at this point will just blame their situation and give up, but I know there is underdogs out there that will do whatever they can to give it a shot. That is why I am here for, I have list couple ways you can improve your chance of getting noticed for a scholarship if your from a small town.

If you are a real hooper, you are on the right page. Look forward to your career and just hope the best. Do everything you possibly can and there will be no regrets.

Things you CAN DO to increase your chance:

  • Move Cities

I know many people will disagree with me on this one, but if your city is not basketball oriented. It makes it really hard for big coaches to see you play. You can always move cities. If you want to play at the next level, you got to play against better players. But then again, I know for many of us, this is not a good option. I am just here to provide my knowledge about basketball scholarships. (This is just one of the options)

  • EYBL, Adidas Gauntlet, or UAA team

If you go to the top 500 ranked players (ESPN) 99% play on one of those circuits. If you can’t play for a big circuit like those, you should find a team with prior D1 players, and then you also have a greater chance.

  • Highlights

Post your Highlights on youtube and send them to many different coaches and trainers. When it comes to youtube, a lot of people already have their highlights. Spread your skill online and make yourself a mixtape. Then send it to a lot of coaches and scouts. We will play the game of percentage. You want to throw yourself out there to feed these coaches and scouts. ( I am the guy you want) No one might respond depending on your skill level, but remember all it takes is one coach to make the hit. Use everything to your advantage. Words will get around and more people will get to know you.

Things you HAVE TO have:

  • Grades

Many colleges want their athlete to be responsible. For a student-athlete, you have to have your grades up to a certain number. For many colleges, their GPA is around 2.3. I know that is not hard for many of us to do, just try to stay in school and get away from drugs. Some schools also look at SAT/ACT scores.

  • Skill level

Are you even one of the best players on the team? Once you get into the college level, the whole skill level will be different. Everyone wants to be a winner, and no one is going to let you have easy. What can you provide for the college team if they offer you? Can you control your diet for the sport you love? If you are that good, I promise some of the coaches in your town will spread their words. Be so good that they can’t ignore you.
